Adult grasshoppers can be 20-70 mm in length and vary from grey-brown to bright green. Grasshoppers are very good jumpers, equipped with strong hind legs with spiny edges. Young grasshoppers are wingless and referred to as hoppers.
Grasshoppers and locusts are broad-range feeders that attack many plants. The brown locust is a major agricultural pest that can form swarms and destroy every plant in their path. Fortunately, swarming only occurs every 7-11 years.
